A career law enforcement professional, Dick came up through the ranks of the Reno, Nevada Police Department to serve as Chief of Police. Following that, he was elected Sheriff of Washoe County, NV and later served as Director of the Nevada Department of Public Safety. In those leadership roles, he managed thousands of employees and budgets that exceeded $1 billion. He has served as a consultant and instructor for the National Police Foundation, is a past member of the Nevada Governor's Advisory Board on Prisons, and past member and chairman of the Nevada State Peace Officers Standards and Training Committee. He has been recognized by the Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government for innovations in Community Policing and by the Nevada Legislature for Outstanding Leadership in Jail Management. He earned the BA degree from Sierra Nevada College and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
